Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Aging Resources of Central Iowa! Below are some of the opportunities we have available currently.

Fresh Conversations:
Food, Fun, & Fellowship

We are currently looking for passionate people to volunteer as Fresh Conversations Facilitators! Fresh Conversations is a monthly nutrition program that takes place at congregate meal sites and community centers. The Fresh Conversations Facilitator is responsible for leading a discussion based on the monthly Fresh Conversations newsletter as well as preparing the food tasting. The groups are generally small (8-12 people) and the meeting lasts about 30 minutes.

We provide a monthly Facilitator Guide to make presenting the information fun and easy. A background in nutrition is not required, just a desire to help others maintain healthy and active lives!

Senior Medicare Patrol:

Help Us Protect, Detect & Report Healthcare Fraud!

The Iowa Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) is seeking volunteers to help spread the message about Medicare fraud and scams! SMP Volunteers share information with older Iowans about how to protect their personal information; detect healthcare errors/fraud; and report errors whenever appropriate. Here are some ways you can volunteer with SMP:

  • Give presentations to groups at meal sites, community centers, or other locations near you. Mileage is reimbursed if you go outside your city. A volunteer may present once a month, or as often as desired.
  • Assist our Senior Medicare Patrol Coordinator with finding groups where she can present the SMP message.
  • Assist with SMP exhibit/booth at fairs and events. This would involve providing SMP brochures and information to attendees.
