Recipients - Strickler Emergency Assistance
Doris, age 69
A neighbor reported concern about Doris’ dramatic weight loss and change in behavior. Boris needed to see a doctor, but refused to due to the prohibitive cost. The grant paid for a physical examination and laboratory tests.
Orval and Clara, both over age 60
Orval is confined to a wheelchair and Clara was unable to get him up and down the steps going into their home. A community group volunteered to build a ramp. We worked with several other organizations to provide money to purchase the building materials needed for the ramp.
Lenora, age 71
Lenora is confined to a wheelchair, cannot see well, and had difficulty reaching across stove burners from her wheelchair to access the controls. As a result, she repeatedly burned her arms. Emergency Assistance money was used to purchase a microwave for safer (and burn-free) cooking.
Marilyn, age 61
Marilyn suffers from severe rheumatoid arthritis and is bed-and/or wheelchair-bound. Marilyn is home alone during the day. The program paid for the installation of an emergency response system so help can be summoned if needed.
John, age 70
John had no vacuum cleaner for several years. His homemaker requested he purchase one. John’s income did not allow this expenditure. The Strickler Fund was able to purchase this item for him.
Nellie, age 81
Nellie is visually impaired. She was in need of a magnifier. The majority of her income is spent on rent, food and utilities. The magnifier cost $115.60. Nellie’s daughter agreed to pay half the cost of the assistive device with the Strickler Fund paying the balance.
Myrtle, age 66
Myrtle had terminal cancer and was in need of a special drug for bedsores. Neither Medicare nor her supplemental insurance advocacy covered this medication. Her income was minimal. The Strickler Fund was able to provide the medication.*
*Aging Resources would like to express appreciation to Myrtle’s family. At the time of her death, memorials were designated to be given to the Strickler Emergency Assistance Program.
