Neighborhood Meals
More and
more central Iowans are taking advantage of the popular Neighborhood
Meals program. A hot meal, friendly faces, and lively conversation
provide a bright spot in the day to help reduce isolation
and loneliness experienced by many in later years. An average
of 3,500 people a day enjoy meals at neighborhood meal centers.
If older
adults are unable to attend neighborhood meal centers, home-delivered
meals can be provided. The same nutritious, well-balanced
meals which meet 1/3 of the Daily Recommended Intake (DRI),
are delivered to their place of residence. Over 3,000 persons
in Aging Resources’ service area benefit from home-delivered
meals which assist in helping them remain independent in their
own home.
• Neighborhood meals are offered to persons aged 60 and over and their spouses (regardless of age).
• Meals are typically served Monday through Friday around noon, but days may vary by location. Check Meal Locations for meal center addresses, phone numbers, and serving days.
• Meals at some centers are catered, while other centers cook meals on-site. All neighborhood meal centers meet health and safety regulations and are handicapped accessible.
• Call your meal center if you need a ride.
