Overview
Aging Resources of Central Iowa
Aging Resources of Central Iowa is an Area Agency on Aging designated under the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended. Established in 1973 by an amendment to the Older Americans Act, the Area Agencies on Aging are the largest national program designed exclusively to address the social service and nutritional needs of persons age 60 and over. Area Agencies are a partnership among federal, state, and local governments and the private sector to advance the social and economic agendas of the elderly.
In Iowa, 13 Area Agencies on Aging strive to meet the needs of Iowa’s rapidly increasing elderly population. Each Area Agency serves the needs of older adults within a designated service area. Aging Resources of Central Iowa serves Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Madison, Marion, Polk, Story, and Warren counties.
Iowa Area Agencies survey and assess available programs and services and identify the gaps; develop plans to expend the funds to fill service gaps and work to assure that older adults have access to programs, services, and institutions which meet the rules. AAA's also advocate for the needs of older adults through community outreach, finance and administer contracts to service providers, and assure adequate information and referral assistance for elders and their caregivers.
